Five Minute Friday — Open

Written by , Posted in Five Minute Friday

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.”  Psalm 81:10

This is a promise from the One who delivered His people from the land of slavery . . .

Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

Open your mouth wide and He. Will. Fill. It.

imagesEvery time I read this verse I think of the Charlie Brown kids in A Charlie Brown Christmas. You know, when they are singing, they lean their heads back and open their mouths big. All you can see are mouths as they sing.

And when you try and catch a snowflake on your tongue. Head back. Mouth open wide. The teeny bits of wonder float right in onto your tongue.

Open wide your mouth and I will fill it, the Lord of Hosts says to His people He has redeemed.

All these years later, we too have been set free from our lands of slavery. Delivered from our bondage and sin, from the people and policies that enslaved us. And into the desert toward the promise land we go.

But as we thirst and hunger we wonder where God has gone. As we wander and quarrel, we wonder if He cares. We are tempted to turn back. This can’t be our life!

However, we are reminded again . . .

Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

So we stop and look up and open up. As silly as it feels, we open our mouths wide so God can fill them with exactly what we need.

We’ve been brought out from our Egypts.

He is the Lord and His Word is sweet.

It’s time to open our mouths wide.

(Welcome to another round of Five Minute Friday, where bloggers from all corners of the internet gather to feverishly tap out five minutes of free writing on a given prompt each week.
